Championing Conservation Efforts for over a decade through Partnerships

CONSERVATION EFFORTS

A characteristic of our area is that in winter, when the river is high, we can explore the small inlets and various winding river systems that make up the conservation area’s flooded jungle. Within the island we have the opportunity to see hundreds of species, including the Amazon pink dolphin, manatee, river otters, parrots and macaws perching in trees. In summer, rivers recede and beautiful sandy river beaches form in some places where great white egrets become a normal part of the scenery.   There is no better way to monitor our progress than to gather data, and for us this means going on site to the conservation area.

Before any expedition, a great amount of preparation is needed, from gathering donations and materials, to organizing with institutions and NGOs to join our efforts. As mentioned earlier, ARC is conservation for-profit company, with all its permissions in place to start work in LA ISLA conservation area as of January 2018.  The initial permission land grant took two years, and it took 6 years to make, modify and approve the management plan that allows activities in the area for the next 40 years.

We have also done social, environmental, biology and forestry studies, as well as an Environment Impact assessment with satellite imagery, we have coordinated to government institutions, NGOs and project developers, and have established important institutional connections through the years.
